Xbox IPTV update

8 01 2007

Following on from this post, Bill Gates did announce a TV service for Xbox 360 last night/this morning, depending on where you are.

Click here for a video demo of the service. I must say the service looks fantastic, but I’m not sure it’s something that will launch in the UK anytime soon.

That’s very impressive, but when will we be available for use in the UK, 2007 or more like 2008.

Also, what percentage of the less technologically literate of the population A.K.A Duane will ever use such a service, I am thinking it will be a not too high a percentage, for a long time.

Like a loser I stayed up last night and watched the whole keynote (for my new PC reasons of course)… anyway point is BT are a named “partner” on the project and have been for some years. Personally, methinks the problem to be the old bandwidth bugbear. While Ruvjet is currently enjoying some of that Be quickness the majority of his peers are suffering with only 2mb (or 4mb in my case) and that is not enough to be watching TV and surfing for something else at the same time. The most impressive announcement for me was the xbox live feauture built into vista. It’s 50/50 whether I get an xbox 360 but I’m 100% certain I’ll upgrade to Vista. The idea of playing (experimenting with) Halo 2 and playing online with other live users is unbelieveable (basically, the game, a headset, and an optional 360 Controller – via USB/BT away!) I get the same menus and features as an xbox user, inc. the ability to send challenges. Its a no brainer for a person like me!

Sorry I realised that about an hour after I read the article, I just forgot to update it.

Microsoft are partnering with BT in the UK for IPTV.
