Stupid Stupid Man

11 01 2007

A little while ago I watched the premiere of this Australian comedy, and then I forgot all about it, even though it made me laugh. I didn’t know anyone in it, and the chances were low that it would ever be on screen in the UK, so I didn’t pay it too much attention.

But it kept nagging at me, because it had one of those scripts I like. You know, a script with random elements thrown at the viewer for about 20 minutes, that are cleverly pulled together (woven into a fine tapestry if you will) in the last 5.

The show revolves around a man starting work at a mens magazine, called “cock”. Yea, funny start. All the staff there are quite eccentric, and actually there is someone I know, it’s one of the guys that used to be on “The Micallef Programme”, an Aussie sketch show that used to be on pretty late on Paramount Comedy Channel.

The first episode focuses on the virginity of the new reruit, and his attempts to lose his v-reg with the bosses daughter. Only, he doesn’t know it’s the bosses daughter (or niece, whatever), so guaranteed hilarity ensues!

If you aren’t in Australia, I have no idea how you are going to watch this, I don’t know of any broadcaster that has bought it in the UK, and no friendly Aussie has uploaded it to the interweb. So you’ll have to take my word for it that it’s funny.

Actually its fairly lame and all been done before. Apparently irritating and stupid characters are funny just for that.
