Ratings for the week ending Feb 25

1 03 2007

Predictably, the 79th Annual Academy awrds won the week for ABC. What is worth noting is that the highest amount of women aged 18-34 turned out to watch since the 2002 ceremony, when Whoopi Goldberg presided over events. This could be down to the female skewing appeal of Ellen Degeneres. Now that The O.C. has finished, Fox added a third edition of Idol to the week on Thursday, and suddenly became competitive on that night.

1. 79th Annual Academy Awards, ABC, 40.2 million viewers

2. American Idol (Wednesday), Fox, 30.5 million viewers

In the UK, nothing is setting this chart on fire. In fact there is only one original drama in the top 20 that isn’t over 10 years old. (Lewis being a spin-off of something old). Top Gear is still doing amazingly well on the back of Richard Hammond’s accident. Is the nation ever going to embrace a new drama again? In a 7-8 million type “Cold Feet” way?
