4HD launches

10 12 2007

Channel 4 HD…and it is exactly what they promised. An upscaled simulcast of Channel 4, with High definition content whenever possible. Highlights over the next week include Hollyoaks (who knew that show would ever make it to the next generation of TV), Ugly Betty and a couple of films including Happy Gilmore. Never fear though, because the upscaled SD content apparently looks a lot better if reports of this morning’s Without a Trace viewing are confirmed. Look out for it Channel 140 on your Sky HD box. Now all we need is ITV (Spring 08) and five to launch and terrestrial HD will be complete!

MTV HD

19 09 2007

This is very much becoming the HD blog. I feel like I should have known about this earlier though, even though I haven’t started mt new job yet. Yesterday MTV announced that they will be starting a Pan-European HD service, operating out of that new European hotbed of Warsaw, Poland.

As well as MTV, VH1 and other programming, their will be a children’s block of HD shows from Nickelodeon, and yes that includes Spongebob Squarepants.

Channel 4 HD

19 09 2007

Wow, the HD news just keeps on coming. After last weeks news that ITV will be launching an HD feed next spring, Channel 4 have trumped them with the news that they will launch an HD simulcast (love that word) in December on Sky HD. Nice. Now ‘five’ have to join the party, and they potentially have the most HD content of all the UK networks.

Silent Witness

17 09 2007

Tonight, I am watching Silent Witness on BBC HD. Never tuned in before, I decided to have a look-see purely because it is being broadcast in high definition. But here is the funny thing, it’s not bad. Not bad at all. The sooner all of BBC’s output is in HD, the sooner I can become re-acquainted with the content ‘Auntie Beeb’ has to offer.

ITV1 HD Next spring…

12 09 2007

I was just zooming through my google reader (a habit I need to get rid of) and I spotted a report on Digital Spy saying that ITV will launch a High Definition  version of ITV1 next spring. I know that technically  takes us up to June 2008, but it’s good for them to put it out there. Even if it’s just their Sainsburys 9pm Dramas and the odd  bit of sport (England home internationals, F1) then it gets them out there. This news, along with the new itv.com shows that Michael grade has really made an impact since his arrival. Who knows, one day I might tune in!!

I am Ready for de HD…

17 08 2007

After a few teething troubles, all is well in my living room. John Lewis wouldn’t match the 40″ D3000 Bravia, so I opted for the cheaper 32″ which they were happy to match with Empire Direct and their Trafford store, who were also doing it for £799. It arrived last night, along with my sky viewing card. My original viewing card was lost in the post, so it all seemed to come together at about 10.20pm last night. Channels were activated a few minutes later, and I was looking at Nathan Petrelli’s fine nose hairs about an hour after that. I’m in HD land people, and there is no room for facial blemishes… If you want an example of how *not* to buy a TV, or any electrical equipment, watch the fonejacker clip after the jump..

Hi-Def T&A

29 01 2007

Is that what you want? When it comes to enhanced video technology, nothing gets consumers buying new equipment like the flesh. VHS, DVD Pay-Per-View and the internet were all built on a solid foundation of pornography. Men not getting any at home, tired of their wives or just looking for something new, all heading down to the electrical store to buy the latest gizmo that will bring them closer to Jenna Jameson and Kobe Tai. Happy Days.

I funded this advert!

25 01 2007

Well my new TV arrived today, a 26″ Sony bravia LCD. But you don’t have Sky HD or Telewest TV Drive, I hear you cry! What’s the point? You are quite right, I won’t be lining the pockets of Rupert Murdoch or Richard Branson to view slightly clearer pictures, but we all know there are other ways to get high definition content. TV from my games console?

22 01 2007

One of the newest ways for people to watch downloaded content on their TV’s is through their shiny new games console. Both Microsoft and Sony have gone to great lengths to get their hardware in your living room, and neither one of them is satisfied with you just using it to play games…

Youtube considering linear channel

15 01 2007

Media Guardian and Digital Spy are reporting that Youtube are looking at launching a linear channel in the “old skool” sense of the word. Here is why, if they are serious, this would be a bad move for them. Read the rest of this entry »

The Ruvvies 2006

1 01 2007

Thats right, the most important awards of the year are back! Pioneered on my old blog, they used to be about excellence in all fields, but really they are just a way of drawing your attention to some stuff I liked this year. On TV of course. Read the rest of this entry »

This week I am mostly watching…

12 10 2006

This week, I’ve been watching Galapagos on BBC two, and it is as good as, if not better than Planet Earth. That must be the dream job for a cameraman, shooting raw footage of unseen nature, in a beautiful habitat.

I actually downloaded a Hi-Def version of episode 2, and… wow. I’m always cussing Hi-definition TV as a waste of time at this early stage, but this has to be seen to be believed.
